The origin of the Kraken Maritime concept is based on a situation experienced one day by businessman Yannick Richard who needed to gather his employees, partners and their families for a work and appreciation stay in a tourist destination. The group, then composed of more than 70 people, was too large to occupy a cottage or an inn, and had to be dispersed into several groups to be accommodated in a condominium or hotel complex. Faced with the impossibility of finding a 100% satisfactory solution, Mr. Richard began to think, as he has always done in his career, with the Blue Ocean paradigm.
How to adapt a rigid hotel complex to offer a local accommodation solution to heterogeneous groups ranging from 4 to 200 people? LEGO blocks were the first conceptual reference. However, moving blocks weighing more than 16 tons (a double room) and connecting them together to form an adapted and functional whole was crazy and became very difficult to make commercially viable. On land!
Masses are much more malleable on water due to buoyancy. The development of the concept was thus directed towards floating units.
In the end, the concept of Kraken Maritime is based on non-motorized floating hotel units which, with an attachment system developed in rubber (to avoid the rustling of metal against metal at the mercy of the waves) are assembled to form islands, 100% autonomous, which can accommodate from 4 to 200 people depending on the needs.
The concept is designed to meet all climatic conditions (north/south). The insulation of the walls makes it possible to preserve the temperature obtained by heating or air-conditioning without too much energy consumption. The three flat pontoons that form the floating structure not only provide stability on the water, but also allow for use on frozen northern lakes. High-end fishing villages could be offered with the floating hotel units.
Mr. Richard's basic marketing idea was originally the local markets, but the meeting with the Boucharra family completely muddied the waters. The discovery of Dakhla in Morocco, of its landscapes of a wordless change of scenery and its majestic Bay, gives a new direction to the whole project. It is no longer just about manufacturing and selling floating hotel units, but also about operating sites like the one under development in Dakhla.
The Kraken Maritime Africa and Middle East company is founded to serve as a development vehicle for the African and Middle Eastern markets. An exclusive sales contract for the units in these markets was signed between Kraken Maritime and Kraken Maritime Africa and Middle East in which the Boucharra family is a shareholder and Mr. Sidi Ahmed Hormatallah, president of the Saharan Association for Sustainable Development and Investment Promotion (ASDI).
The floating hotel units will be manufactured in Quebec (Canada) in the vast region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue and exported to their destinations, the first of which would be Dakhla in Morocco.
