Beyond its obvious attraction from a tourist point of view, Dakhla Bay is above all a wonder of nature. Several phenomena are still unexplained today, such as the White Dune, which has remained unchanged over the centuries, and several animal and marine species on the verge of extinction, such as the monk seal, the leatherback turtle, the addax, the Mhorr dama gazelle, the dorcas gazelle, the striped hyena and many others. The water temperature is on average 6 to 8 degrees Celsius higher than that of the Mediterranean Sea.
Dragon Island, at the edge of the Bay, is accessible by foot at low tide and by boat at high tide. But beware, this emblematic island is full of biodiversity that should not be harmed.
